In Turkiye, particularly in Alanya, preparations for the Kurban Bayram holiday, also known as Eid al-Adha (The feast of sacrifice) are in full swing. For most believers, it is the main holiday of the year. This year the celebration will start on June 28th.

Eid al-Adha begins to be celebrated 70 days after Ramadan Eid.

We will give you more information about the traditions of the main Muslim holiday.

According to the rules of Islam, believers keep a one-day fast - they do not eat or drink anything from sunrise until sunset. Before the start of the holiday, it is necessary to perform a full bath and prepare clean, neat clothes. 
For sacrifice, a sheep is most often chosen, but sometimes a cow, camel, or goat can be chosen. The meat is divided into 3 parts. One of them remains for the preparation of the festive table, the other two parts are distributed to relatives and those in need. 
Hospitable Muslims try to feed as many poor/people in need as possible. Also, everyone is happy to visit relatives and family members on holidays, congratulate each other and give gifts.
During this period, Muslim believers also adhere to a number of prohibitions.
• categorically it is impossible to walk in dirty/untidy clothes;
• You can not engage in hard work that will not allow you to perform holiday prayers and rituals;
• it is forbidden to swear, harm, or inconvenience anyone;
• You can not be stingy and refuse to help.

Returning to the celebration in 2023, we want to inform you that state institutions will be closed for 9 days, including weekends. And private sector workers will work full-time on June 26, and part-time on June 27. In general, the celebration will last 5.5 days.
