A new Turkish drilling vessel will begin exploration of gas fields in the Eastern Mediterranean in August, Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay said on Wednesday.
“In early August, the Abdulhamid Khan drilling ship will begin exploration work,” NTV quoted him as saying. Oktay added that Turkey will take the necessary measures in case of possible provocations in the area of the planned work.
Turkish Energy Minister Fatih Donmez previously reported that gas could be produced in Turkey's exclusive economic zone.
The Abdulhamid Khan will be the fourth Turkish drilling vessel to participate in gas exploration in the Eastern Mediterranean.
