The sale of real estate to foreigners in Turkey in May increased by 235.7% compared to the same period last year, to almost 6 thousand units. Most of the housing in the country was purchased by citizens of the Russian Federation - 1,275 apartments, according to data published on Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics.
The second place in May was occupied by the citizens of Iran, who purchased 736 units of real estate, followed by the citizens of Iraq - 617 apartments.
The Statistical Office notes that the sale of real estate in Turkey in May increased by 107.5% compared to April, with a total of 122,768 apartments sold. Most housing was purchased in Istanbul - 22,148 real estate units.
Istanbul, as noted, is in first place among foreigners who want to buy a home in Turkey. In May, 2,451 apartments were sold to foreign citizens in the city on the banks of the Bosporus. In second place is Antalya with 1,885 properties, followed by the Mediterranean province of Mersin with 264 apartments. Turkey's first nuclear power plant, Akkuyu, is being built in Mersin province.
In April of this year, citizens of the Russian Federation were also in the lead in purchasing real estate in Turkey. They bought 1,152 apartments, mostly in Istanbul.
