TURKEY IS NEGOTIATED WITH 10 COUNTRIES TO LEASE LAND FOR AGRICULTURE

The Turkish authorities are negotiating with 10 countries, including Ukraine, on the lease of land for agricultural production.

Abroad, it is mainly planned to grow crops, the production of which is impossible or complicated in Turkey for climatic and other reasons, the Turkiye newspaper reported on Wednesday.

“Turkey satisfies domestic demand for agricultural products, but if we are talking about exports, then it is necessary to rent land abroad. Modern products should be exported,” the newspaper quotes Turkish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Vakhit Kirishchi as saying.

According to the newspaper "Khurriyet", negotiations on the lease of land, along with Ukraine, are being conducted with the countries of Latin America and Africa. Abroad, in particular, it is planned to grow sunflower, corn, cotton, sugar cane, clover, rapeseed, pineapple, mango, and avocado. A significant part of them will be intended for export. The projects will be implemented by the private sector.

The newspaper notes that the issue of leasing agricultural land was discussed during a recent visit to Turkey by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. The Ministry of Agriculture of the Latin American country offered Turkey a lease of 400,000 hectares of farmland. “Produce 100 kg of wheat, take 70 of them for yourself, leave 30, that’s enough for us,” Hurriyet quoted Venezuelan Agriculture Minister Wilmar Castro Soteldo as saying.
